"Rise & Shine" reflects how far the band has come in the past few years, realizing a unique and seamlessly coherent sound: a fusion of traditional West African music and roots reggae. Habib Koite
Very happy a colleague recommended Mdou Moctar to me after I discovered & fell in love with Tinariwen and this new (to me) desert blues sound! Mdou Moctar inject more of a psychedelic sensibility into their music rather than Tinariwen's drone, making it flavorfully distinctive, while still carrying that shining, twanging, sun-drenched sound we all love about Saharan desert rock. Love the grooving rhythms and the alternately snappy clean or drowned-in-effects guitar melodies. Excellent work! pinkytheent
I love these women. the voices mesh together perfectly; also the world music is exceptional. I have all of their albums and they're all excellent. Give them a listen. Steve Lake
The groove on Badala is an absolute monster. If this doesn't move you, you might as well check yourself into the ER to make sure you aren't dead because the groove is DEEP and HARD. Polygondwanajams
